Description One of the 2 shovels used to turn the first sod for the new Awatere Bridge. The shovel was signed by the dignitaries who were present at the opening. The shovel was then gifted to the Flaxbourne Museum by Transit New Zealand. The signatories are: Alistair Sowman, Mayor of Marlborough; David Parker, Minister of Transport; Richard Bradley; Thomas Khau; Graham Taylor, Transit Wellington Regional Manager; Richard Barnveld, Transit New Zealand Chief Executive Officer.
Richard Bradley and Thomas Kahu performed the Maori blessing.
