Description |
Crossley Brothers 1929 generator set - serial number 110693 - type FOE 4. 100 horse power, 375 RPM. The fly wheel alone weighs three tons. Installed in 1930 to power a sawmill at McRae's Flat in Central Otago. Used mainly for making barrel staves for the New Zealand Refrigerating Company. In 1946 it was transferred to the Picton Freezing Works to power a stand by alternator set. Removed by VFM in 1985. Is air started by a compressor (has no batteries) and needs 200 PSI (pounds per square inch) pressure before the motor will start. Has a small grey switchboard which goes with it.
