Description |
Brunswick single cylinder compressor. A plaque (see image 2) reads: Brunswick. Serial number 12158. Size C151(1?). Manufactured by Brunswick-Kroeschell Company. New Brunswick, New Jersey, U.S.A. Chicago, Ill. This compressor was used at Collie's ice cream and cordial factory in Grove Road, Blenheim for aerating soft drinks etc.
Information supplied by John E. May in 2007 is as follows. Collie's Ice Cream. Vankist Cordial (aerated soft drinks). The factory plant at Brayshaw Park consists of one single cylinder "Brunswick" ammonia compressor and one twin cylinder "Haslam Derby" ammonia compressor. These units had a multi purpose use, eg., pasteurizing and sterilizing; ice cream mixing machine; chilling water for the soft drinks; sterilizing churn for processing; ice cream hardening room and stock storage freezer. Apart from Mr. Collie, other owners were Barney Hope and Family and Frank Southgate. Mr Collie had a disability and spent most of his life on crutches. Mr. Collie's sister, a dental nurse and later Mrs. Lewis, had a husband who built an attractive residence town side of the High Street bridge in Blenheim.
