Collection VFM (unaccessioned) General
Description Dark green Lister, 2 horse power, 450 rpm, stationary engine - serial number 7070 - size J.

Manufactured by R.A. [Robert Ashton, known as Ashton] Lister & Co. Ltd, Dursley, England, who began in the town in 1867 and are still there in 2009, although on a much reduced scale.

Donor unknown, owned by Marlborough Vintage Farm Machinery Society.

This particular Lister engine has The Lister sign upside down on one side - it has been painted red to make it easy to see [see images 1, 2 and 7]. There were 20 made like this and the story goes that it was either done by accident by a worker on his first day, or on purpose by a disgruntled sacked worker on his last day.
