Collection Ron Hebberd
Date c.1964
Description Three wheeled, blue and white Ariel 3 Moped (motor and pedals), petrol driven 2 stroke 50cc engine. The front half leans over for cornering (see images 7 and 8). The motor is under the spare tyre on the carrier at the back. Front suspension is a big rubber bush. It was manufactured c.1964 and was registered and still going in 2005 when Ron bought it. The Ariel 3 was the last English 50cc design - it is a square design, similar to the Vaxhaull Viva car made in the same era. It was designed especially for woman to use to go shopping with; it doesn't need a stand, being 3 wheeled; has a wind screen for extra protection and a carrier for putting shopping in, but it never really caught on.
