Description Leather portmanteau (described as a leather Gladstone bag). A leather tag stitched to the case is stamped "Real Cowhide". There are two sliding catches at each end on the top closure and one lockable catch in the middle. The key is missing. The case is lined with light green fabric. The center partition is edged with dark green leather and has a cowhide pull tab stitched to it. There are two leather straps that buckle together to hold the partition to one side. One of the buckle straps is missing.
The name B.C. Smith, Penny Street, Blenheim is written in black ink on the iside of the case and on the centre partition.

There have been several luggage lables that have been stuck onto the outside of the case, most are illegible however the town names of Hawera and Picton are still legible. A swing tag luggage label is tied by string to the leather covered handle. Written on it the name: B.C. Smith, Passenger, Christchurch [crossed out] Blenheim.
