Sunday 2 Aug
Lawrence Chaytor came - told us Germany had declared war with Russia

Thursday 6 Aug
The Territorials - All been called out at midnight to go to Whites Bay to guard the Cable, they left at 2 a m.
Hastings [Grace] & H White - Went
Earthquake - A severe Earthquake about 20 past 9 p m.
A Great Meeting - In town re the war speeches and band playing and patriotic songs sung

Saturday 8 Aug
Lawrence Chaytor - To bid us good bye he is off to Camp in Nelson to night, thence to the war, God keep him safe

Tuesday 11 Aug
The Volunteers - Just left for Nelson where they go in camp till they leave for the front

Thursday 13 Aug
Nessie [Grace]- Saw the mounted Volunteers off to Nelson

Friday 14 Aug
Hattie Jenkins Came - They are all very sad lest Jamie [Jenkins] leaves for the war

Saturday 15 Aug
Harry Stace - Came to tell us all they knew of Lawrence [Chaytor]
Mrs Macey Is very upset at Bertie [Macey] going to the War

Wednesday 26 Aug
Lucy - Went to the Intersessary Service at the Church for the War, a large congregation
The Archdeacon - Read the Litany, Revd Roder (?) prayers also, Mr Rothwell prayer

Wednesday 2 Sep
Mrs Jenkins & Mrs Gibbs - Came for me to go to prayer meeting at Presbertian Church

Wednesday 16 Sep
Mrs Jenkins - Came in she was going to "Service at the Church for War"

Friday 16 Oct
Bertie [Edridge] - Engaged to Ursula Grace, he has just left with the troops, sailed to day (see Notes)

Monday 26 Oct
(?)Irvine H - To lunch & late tea, just gone to prayer meeting in town

Friday 30 Oct
Mr Taylor's letter, Hobart - Said they had 27 Boats, they went in rows of 7, a gun boat either end it was a grand sight

Wednesday 4 Nov
Lucy - Went to the Intercessary Service at the Scotch Church

Wednesday 14 Nov
Mrs Ensor - Went to Intercessary Service with me

Wednesday 2 Dec
Lucy - Went to Service at Wesley Church with Mrs Jenkins very good service, a good congregation
