Description |
Rabbit skin knee rug. The rug consists of several pelts of light brown rabbit (8 x 7) measuring 155cm x 200cm. These skins are backed onto a large square of dark brown felt which measures 171cm x 217cm. The edge of the felt is scalloped with a ziqzag effect which has been achieved with pinking shears. There is a square outline of black cord supporting the weight of the furs where they are attached to the felt backing. .................................................................................................................................................................... Information from Textile manager, Pam Saunders. The knee rug came in years ago from the Good family of Kekerengu. It was used by Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Good when they travelled to Blenheim from Kekerengu. Mrs Mary (John) Good told me this. She said her parents used it when they came into town from Kekerangu on cold days.... Mrs Noleen (nee Rollason) and Lindsay Good...I'm not sure of the spelling.
Jenny Pierson, 26 March 2013: This is not quite correct. Mrs. Mary Good [wife of John Good married 1948] was nee Rollason and her parents were John Lindsay Rollason and Noeline Rosella Nalder married 1928. It would appear that the rug belonged to the Rollason family not the Good family, unless it was later owned by Mr. and Mrs. John Good.
