Description 1 x black fur coat. Black mid-calf rabbit skin coat. The coat has a deep collar which measures 30cm at back . The coat is fastened centre front with three large fur buttons which have material loops. The set-in sleeves are gathered on the shoulder for extra drama. The bottom of the coat has strips of fur (10cm) that have been stitched to form a zig-zag pattern. Lined with a patterned tan material.

(Included is a photograph from the 1940's of Jack Andrews with his mother Phoebe Elizabeth Andrews and grandmother Elizabeth Ann Elbeck (nee Coleman), who married again becoming Mrs. Annie Nosworthy. This is at Picton to catch the Tamahine en route to training as a wireless operator/gunner in Canada. Jack came back and served in the Pacific. The coat was probably bought when Annie was Mrs. Nosworthy as her husband Frank Nosworthy (2nd husband) was a successful businessman as a saddler and owned real estate. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and Fire Brigade. Annie Elbeck/Nosworthy had several daughters who married to become matriarchs of the Marlborough area: Mathews, Soper, and Andrews families. The coat is seen in the photograph being worn by Mrs. Elbeck/Nosworthy.
Donated by Mrs. Rae Gilmore.)

Has Nosworth/Elbeck on Pam's label. Image 1 shows Mrs. Nosworthy, on the left, wearing the coat. Orignal photograph is owned by Dale Webb, President of MHS in 2012.

Elizabeth Ann Coleman married Henry Herman Elbeck in 1878. Then Elizabeth Ann Elbeck married James Frank Nosworthy in 1896. Phoebe Elizabeth Elbeck married Charles John Andrews in 1920 (source: New Zealand Society of Genealogists, CD-Rom, New Zealand Marriages 1836-1856 version 2, compiled 2006).
