A black and white photograph showing crowds in front of the Blenheim Post Office. A banner across the front of the Post Office says, "Prosperity for Marlborough". A banner in the crowd says, "God Save the Queen". Another banner says, "Purity, Fidelity, Love. Note the men sitting precariously along the roofline. Someone has written on the back, Queen Victoria 50th 1898. This is not correct. It is a celebration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee [60 years] held in Blenheim in 1897. Queen Victoria's jubilee celebrations were held in Blenheim over a week beginning on 21st June 1897 and were known as Record Reign Day and Jubilee Week [information from internet site Papers Past, see 2009.050.0001]. A scan of this photograph is to be used in the Changing European History Gallery 2 display in commemoration of the Marlborough Provincial 150th anniversary on 1 November 2009. ...............................................................................................................................................................................
