| Bone, tied in a bundle with three other pieces. This piece has a knobbly end and tapers. The tapered end is very broken. It is the big bone showing in image 1. Information from Professor Richard Holdaway of Canterbury Museum 25 August 2012: This is a right tibiotarsus (shin) bone, of a small female, or a male about 3 years old, of an unknown species of moa. Archaeological, meaning it has been cooked and eaten. Attributed to Matthews collection because Pru Matthews told Jenny Pierson on 8/12/2011 that she sometimes wrote a number in black ink onto a white background on some of her objects. Found in the walk-in safe November 2011. |
