Box list. Box 1: Archdeacon Thomas Samuel Grace family group. His wife, Rhoda Caroline (nee Colt) is seated next to him. Standing: Monica, Mark, Wene, Lawrence. Seated: Nessie, Archdeacon Grace, Mrs. Rhoda Grace, Humphrey. Front: Joyce, Hastings, Beryl, Ursula. Seated on Mrs. Grace's knee: Raleigh.
They had five sons and four daughters. In age order: Humphry Gilbert (b. 1883), Laurence Gordon (b. 1885), Mark Walton (b.1887), Monica Geraldine (b. 1889), Lillie Ursula (b.1891), Francis Hastings (b.1894), Ethel Joyce (b.1895), Aumuri Beryl (b.1897), Walter Raleigh (b. 1899)
The two girls [Nessie and Wene] are nieces. A note with the photograph says they are daughters of George Grace, however, I can find no record of George being married and having children (see note 1 - he lived in England). They are the daughters of Lawrence Marshall Grace and Te Kahui Te HeuHeu (see note 2).
The girl seated to the Archdeacon's right is Agnes Takarea (Nessie) Grace and the girl standing between the two boys at the back is Bessie Te Wenerau (Wene) Grace. Identification from Wene McMillin, 34 Lakeridge Close, Taupo, in an email to Jenny Pierson 18 July 2012. Wene McMillin is the Great-niece of Thomas Samuel Grace, granddaughter of Lawrence Marshall Grace and Te Kahui Grace (nee Te HeuHeu) and daughter of Katie Gribbin (nee Grace). Record updated by Jenny Pierson 18/7/2012. |
