Collection Akersten Photograph Album 1
Photographer Akersten, James Raglan
Description Page 15 of 36: Sepia view of Penguin Bay, Pelorus Sound, with John Alexander Couper standing at the junction of the Rai and Pelorus rivers. He has a small girl on his shoulder and there is a small boat in the harbour. Protected [no date] Akersten photograph.

Mr. Couper is not identified in the photograph. Presumably he was identified by Archives staff in 1999 when this album was first begun. The late Lesley Gardiner, a descendant of John Alexander Couper, was a volunteer at Archives but I don't know when she started.
