Description |
Silk shawl. Country of Origin: India. Square, silk, fringed shawl. Woven in on piece with the pattern edge measuring 42 cm and has a plain centre of 74cm square. The knotted fringe which trims the shawl measures 16cm. It has been woven using the ikat technique. Fabric/Weave: Silk/Uneven. Condition: Some threads have perished.
The label which was attached to the shawl reads" Indian shawl dates from the time of Indian Mutiny 1859. Exhibited by Mrs. L. J. Wright." Attributed to Palmer donation as this is the only donation of an unknown silk shawl as at May 2011. |
