Description |
One porter with a trunk in a hand cart. Made in Germany. Wire spring. Old. This toy is very similar to catalogue record 1995.006.0007, donated by Mrs. Wyatt, and probably is one of a pair belonging to the two Wyatt brothers.
A search on the internet 23 July 2010, found one of these toys at Hartleys Auctioneers and Valuers, the United Kingdom's leading auction house for antiques. There it is listed as a tin plate toy, a Marke Stock railway porter, with a clockwork motor, early 20th century. Price 110 English pounds. A further search found the Stock factory in Solingen, Germany was founded by Walter Stock in 1906 and that they manufactured clockwork novelty toys of an inexpensive nature until approximately 1930.
Found in the Museum Storeroom by CE, Steve Austin, in June 2010. |
