Description
A baggage-man with cart. Belonged to Eric and Lewis Wyatt. This object is a wind-up toy porter with a trunk in a handcart. The lid of the trunk opens. Has the letters, "W. St. H. 185" on the barrow. A search on the internet 23 July 2010, found one of these toys at Hartleys Auctioneers and Valuers, the United Kingdom's leading auction house for antiques. There it is listed as a tin plate toy, a Marke Stock railway porter, with a clockwork motor, early 20th century. Price 110 English pounds. A further search found the Stock factory in Solingen, Germany was founded by Walter Stock in 1906 and that they manufactured clockwork novelty toys of an inexpensive nature until approximately 1930.
