Image from Negative number 183, published in The Marlborough Express Wednesday October 23, 1957, page 7.
Murphy's Creek Still Troublesome. Murphy's Creek is still proving troublesome to T.H. Barnes & Co. Ltd., the contractors who are replacing the old timber bridge in Nelson Street (near Mr. W.T. Churchward's home) with a concrete culvert. The northern end of the culvert, shown in this picture, is virtually completed, but the water refuses to be diverted away from the lower end of the culvert site. A second wall of sheet piling is being driven in an endeavour to hold it back so that water in the dammed area can be pumped out. |
