Mrs. Bette Hoar, "New Moon's" successful season ends. A highly successful season in every way was capped on Saturday night by the final performance of "The New Moon" by the Blenheim Amateur Operatic Society. A practically full house was in the mood to enjoy what had all the week proved a popular show, and the company responded with a first-class performance. Applause was ready and generous, and was invariably well earned. A well rounded show confirmed the right of the production to be entered as one of the most successful and enjoyable in the 40 the society has presented since "The Gondoliers" back in 1918. A special feature of "The New Moon" is that it was an all-Blenheim production - right down to the realistic crying of Alexander's baby in the second act. This was lustily provided by one of the unseen members of the company; it was a tape recording of the first promising performance for public presentation by an infant with a prominent local amateur theatrical background. At the curtain calls, Mrs. Bette Hoar was accorded sustained applause, which cordially endorsed the society's decision in entrusting the play to a local producer. In acknowledging the warm ovation, she confessed that she had tackled the job with some nervousness, but had received such wonderful co-operation on every hand that she had been encouraged to go ahead. She thanked everyone who had worked so hard and willingly. Continued...
