Description |
The painting on this fragment of pottery depicts the palace of the kings of China in the Zhejiang Province. Identified as west lake pottery, this fragment was found between the frames of the Edwin Fox on the starboard side forward during the clean up process.
It is possible this pottery would have come onboard the Edwin Fox in 1857 when she made a trip from Shantou in China to Cuba taking 288 Chinese labourers to work in the sugar-cane fields. Teh voyage took from August 1857 to March 1858. |
