Collection BRRS (unaccessioned) General
Date 1940s
Description Ruston locomotive, 4.0 tonnes, 2 cylinder Lister diesel engine, electric start (the blue engine in image 1). Built in the United Kingdom by Ruston in the 1940s and used for munitions work. After World War 2 it was sold to an English fun park and used on a children's railway. It was imported to New Zealand in 1984 and used at Footrot Flats fun park in Auckland (near the Whenuapai airbase). Footrot Flats modified it from a 3 cylinder to a 2 cylinder engine. It was purchased by John Orchard, President of Blenheim Riverside Railway Society, in 2011 and will eventually be purchased from him for the Society. The BRRS will decide on its name. Beaver is currently the favoured name.
