Collection BRRS (unaccessioned) General
Date 1940s
Description Ruston DL locomotive, 5.5 tonnes, 3 cylinder Lister engine (the red locomotive in image 1). Built in the United Kingdom by Ruston in the 1940s. Used in New Zealand at the Milton Lime Quarry where it was used to supply lime to the Milburn Limeworks. It was also used in the Manapouri power station tunnel project. When it was no longer required for active work it was purchased by the Ashburton Car Club. They sold it to Blenheim Riverside Railway Society [BRRS] in 1990 and BRRS restored it to service. It is used as a work train and back up locomotive for the passenger trains.

This locomotive is named MURRAY in honour of the late Murray Guthrie, first Vice President of BRRS. Murray began restoration work on this engine but died before work was complete.
