Description |
Yellow caterpillar crawler tractor, model 10 - serial number PT620. Made in 1930. This crawler has a 4 cylinder petrol motor. Caterpillar is an American company. Originally all earthworking equipment was painted grey, but in America a Government order demanded that all construction vehicles be painted yellow, the same colour as their school buses.
There is a home-made blade on the front. It is operated by a handle (see image 6) which turns a winch (see images 3 and 4) which raises and lowers the blade mechanically (see image 1).
The crawler was worked in the Appleby, Nelson area and came from Malvern Hills, Avon Valley, Waihopai when it was purchased by Vintage Farm Machinery Society Inc. on 18 July 1986 from D. Young for $1,100. |
