| Description |
Barbed wire retrieved from a trench by Private Twidle at Gallipoli on ANZAC Day 1950. It would measure approximately 2 feet long if uncoiled and is of a distinctive type, a single sharp toothed barb wrapped three times around a single strand and the barbs are close together. The barbs were close together so a hand couldn't be got very near the wire to cut it.
"Devil's Rope" was the term used for barb wire during during WW1 and various types were used, including razor wire by the Germans. Troops were very afraid of getting caught in the wire and left 'hanging on the wire' and some songs of the times mention this.
