Description Model of Yellow Admiral Butterfly (Bassaris itea) made by Stephen McCarthy

The Maori name for the Yellow Admiral is kahukowhai, which means "yellow cloak". They prefer open country, wastelands and gardens where stinging nettles, Urtica incisa and Urtica urens are present, these are the food plants for their caterpillars. It is found at up to 1000m above sea level.

It is a strong, fast flier, and is thought to survive wind-blown travel from Australia to New Zealand. The wingspan of this species is between 48 – 55 mm.

Our model is made of polystyrene, and the wingspan of this model is 114 cm.
