James Benjamin Chinn 1845 - 1919
James Benjamin Chinn 1845 - 1919 Born at St. Pierre, Isle of Guernsey in March, 1845 James Chinn sailed to New Zealand on the Carnatic, and arrived in Picton, January 1875. He went on to Blenheim where he was engaged in various employment, including Photography and Chemistry. He became the Manager of Wairau Brewery in 1898. He was also a member of the Marlborough Agricultural and Pastoral Association which complemented his love of horticulture. James Chinn was a skilled photographer. He had his studio located in his house on Grove Road. He is particularly known for his floral studies of exotic flowers grown in his conservatories.
