Description A black and white study of a Paphiopedilum lawrenceanum orchid , known in 1878 as a Cypripedium lawrenceanum orchid, and commonly known as a Lady Slipper. Information from the internet shows it with dark green, white and yellow flowers [see orchidspecies.com]. The dictionary description says, "Cypripedium. A genus of orchids with showy, drooping flowers, including the lady's slipper, moccasin flower, etc. " A note on the reverse reads: "Cypripedium Laweranceianum, Mr. Chinn".

In 1906: "Mr. Chinn is a member of the Marlborough Agricultural and Pastoral Association, takes a keen interest in horticultural matters, and has some fine conservatories and gardens at his private residence in Grove Road." [Source: Cyclopedia of New Zealand Volume 5, 1906, p341]

Found in an envelope with "J. Chinn Photography" written on it in the Museum workroom research shelves on 25 August 2009 by Jenny Pierson.
