Caption 81 Memorial service or commemoration in Market Place for King Edward VII. King Edward VII (1841-1910) had recently died on 6 May, 1910. He had reigned from his 1902 Coronation. The British Empire stood at its mightiest, and Britain was on top of so much of the world's great affairs, industries, development, and prosperity. It has since been dubbed the Edwardian Age, a golden age. New Zealand, and Marlborough, benefited from this prosperity. The presence of so many Marlburians in Market Place, as a mark of respect for the late King, says a great deal. The Cleghorn Rotunda stands amid it all, fittingly swathed in black cloth. Note Miller & McKay's ironmongery and furniture shop at left. 2009.067.0041
