Collection Marlborough Province - down the decades from early days
Description A black and white photograph showing the Blenheim celebrations for the coronation of Edward VII in 1902. A traction engine puffing out lots of white smoke is the centre of attraction. Some people hold umbrellas and it looks like it has been raining. Banners saying Long Live the King and God Save the King are visible. This view appears to be a continuation of catalogue record 0000.900.0706, but the mount is different and the size of the print is different.

On the back of the photograph in the handwriting of D.M. Furness (Owner of Marlborough Express in 1946) is: "Coronation Edward VII 1902."

A scan of this photograph is to be used in the Changing European History Gallery 2 display in commemoration of the Marlborough Provincial 150th anniversary on 1 November 2009.

At this time the Monarchy was the focus of Marlburian's attention, they were proud of their British origins. To most England was "Home". Some people hold umbrellas, and it looks like it has been raining. Banners say God Save the King and Long Live the King, the latter on the two-storey Club Hotel, in High Street. The Post Office, on the left, supports bunting, and foliage. Many of the men, and women, wear the then fashionable light boater hats. 2009.067.0040
