A black and white photograph showing the Marlborough Express office in High Street, Blenheim decorated with various banners and placards for the relief of Ladysmith during the Second Boer War (1899-1902). The battle for Ladysmith was from 30 October 1899 to 28 February 1900. The front of the photograph says, "How Marlborough Express, Blenheim, N.Z [New Zealand] celebrated Relief of Ladysmith."
Photograph is stamped in blue on the front mount with Marlborough Historical Society.
Photograph is stamped on the reverse with A.M. Hale Collection.
A scan of this photograph is to be used in the Changing European History Gallery 2 display in commemoration of the Marlborough Provincial 150th anniversary on 1 November 2009. ............................................................................................................................................................................... Patriotic workers have decorated the frontage to mark the relief of the besieged Imperial Troops, and civilians in the town of Ladysmith.
