A black and white photograph showing the Starborough Estate woolshed and a small cottage with trees on the right and scrub on the left.
Information as typed by Norm Brayshaw: "Seddon. On the Starborough Estate about 1890. The woolshed near the site of the present township. The trees form the plantation which is visible in early photo[graph]s of the township."
Copied by Norm Brayshaw in 1964 from a photograph supplied by Mr. Kennington. Includes a negative.
There is another copy of this photograph in the same packet. It has drawn on it in black ink "Mill St[reet] today. With an arrow and "Present Road". A scan of this photograph will be used in the Changing European History Gallery 2 display in commemoration of the Marlborough Provincial 150th anniversary on 1 November 2009. ................................................................................................................................................................................Caption 57 The last days of Starborough Station. This view, photographed in 1890, from quite close to the War Memorial on the hill, looks out across the former post and rail fences, to the station woolshed, and sheep yards. Purchased by the Government, the property was subdivided by 1899, into 47 farms, four small grazing runs, and the township of Seddon. Instead of looking bare, the new town inherited the former station's useful shelter of mature trees. 2009.067.0046
