Governor General Lord Bledisloe meets a champion at Rai Valley's wood-chopping contest in 1932. William Brownlee's timber empire ended in 1915. Not all millable trees had gone; several reserves remained such as that at Pelorus Bridge. There was still scope for small companies to mill the less densely wooded hillsides until the 1970s. 2009.067.0043
