Brownlee's Carluke sawmill at Rai Valley, about 1900. Logs have arrived from three valleys - the Opouri, Tunakino, and Ronga. The mill boasts "modern" machinery. We can see piles of newly-arrived logs, sawn timber, off-cut heaps, possibly the mill manager's house at right, and a row of workers' huts. Here and there, we see forlorn stumps, and logs, from the Rai Forest. 2008.165.0152 |
