A black and white mounted photograph showing a harvesting scene on Charlie McLauchlan's farm, Rannock, on the corner of Colemans Road and Old Renwick Road, Blenheim.
Written on the back in an unknown hand, "Harvest scene threshing barley on "Rannock" C.F. McLauchlan['s farm]. Loaded drays from left Charlie Evans[;] Jack Ball[;] Bernard Chapman[;] with A.A. McCallums dray mare and foal Cecil Hall[ (grey)[.] Jack Newton, with fork, 'Jack Johnson was the most scientific 'bosker'[?] in the world. In the home country, black and white bullocks gave four gallons at a meal (expressions of Jack)'."
A white sticky label is in the left top corner with, "McCallum" written on it in blue ink.
A scan of this photograph is to be used in the Changing European History Gallery 2 display in commemoration of the Marlborough Provincial 150th anniversary on 1 November 2009.

A big job harvesting barley on C.F. McLauchlan's Rannock farm on the corner of Colemans and Old Renwick Roads, in the early 1900s. Two stooks await collection in the foreground. It needed plenty of muscle power to toss up the sheaves speared on the end of a pitchfork. The chap on the stack would deftly catch the sheaf with his fork, and place it carefully. From the left, the workers are: Charlie Evans; Jack Ball; Bernard Chapman; Cecil Hall; and Jack Newton with the fork. 2009.067.0024

Image 2 is a note from Bernice Adams correcting the label. It was Bruce McLauchlan who had a farm in Rapaura, his was named "Rothay". Charlie McLauchlan's farm was named "Rannock" and it was at the corner of Colemans and Old Renwick Roads.
The article sent by Bernice, dated 13 June 1994, reads: "Historic Facts. Sir - After reading your article on the history of Blenheim (The Express, May 31) I would like to add a few historic facts which may be of interest to readers.
My grandparents Alexander and Margaret McLauchlan (nee McCallum) took up land on what is now Old Renwick Road in 1859 and called their propery Rannock. My grandmother was a daughter of Richard McCallum who called his neighbouring property Waterlea as the area was mostly flax an swamp.
My father John McLauchlan farmed at Kekerengu for many years but returned to Blenheim to marry Lucy Hall in 1909 and built a stately home near where the electricity sub-station is today. My uncle Charlie McLauchlan bread champion southdown sheep.
My brother Lyall McLauchlan is a former chairman of the old Marlborough Catchment Board and still farms in the area.
