Collection MHS (Unaccessioned) Textiles
Description Girl's white cotton petticoat, with pintucked and lace hem - for a two or three year old girl. The donor and country of origin are unknown. [This petticoat is underneath the frock second from left on the top shelf in image 1].

Construction details:
Made in plain weave. The bodice has been altered at some stage with a 13cm strip of material inserted under the arms to make the garment longer. The bodice has a scooped neckline and is sleeveless. The neckline and the armholes are trimmed with broderie anglaise (0.5cm). The petticoat has a back opening of 35cm which is fastened with five mother-of-pearl buttons. The skirt is gathered onto the bodice and there are four pintucks (1cm) before the broderie anglaise scalloped hem. The original part of the petticoat has been handsewn.
