Description |
1 of 2 fingerless mittens knitted in khaki coloured wool. Mittens are to the left of the knitting in image 1.
Knitting for the soldiers. Wool was available through the Red Cross and other organisations. People knitted scarves, balaclavas, socks, bedsocks etc., in khaki, airforce blue and navy for the men in the forces. Knitting wool for othe rneeds was in very short supply and required clothing coupons. Knitting sessions were held fortnightly. Non-knitters minded the children and served afternoon tea.
