Date c.1870
Description Black beaded shoulder cape circa 1870. High collar, front yoke and back yoke, made of grosgrain material, over embroidered with black/gold bugle beads. Net over top arms embroidered with black bugle beads and finished at elbow with a fringing of alternate coloured beads of gold and black. Stand-up collar outlined with machine lace and centre front has heavily frilled machine lace, which reaches 73cm to finish either side of front opening, with black grosgrain ribbon bows. The cape finishes centre back with heavily frilled machine black lace. Waist tape of ribbon, which would hold this in place and accent the bustle. Secured down centre front with metal hooks and eyes.
