Collection MHS (unaccessioned) Textiles
Description Kete of harakeke-flax with three shades of natural colour in a traditional weave. Neatly finished at the top. There are no handles. Used as a purse.

"The basket, or kete, was woven from flax or cabbage tree leaves. It was used for the collection and storage of food and also personal possessions. Woven geometric patterns [such as this one has] are a modern innovation." [Source: New Zealand's Heritage the making of a nation, Hamlyn House, Sydney, 1971, volume 1, page 98.]
