Description Kete of harakeke-flax with traces of pink and indigo. Kete is in good condition but dyes have faded. They were pink and indigo - plainly seen on the inside. Plain weave with double weave at top. Picot finish at top. Two twisted handles.

"The basket, or kete, was woven from flax or cabbage tree leaves. It was used for the collection and storage of food and also personal possessions. Woven geometric patterns [such as this one has] are a modern innovation." [Source: New Zealand's Heritage the making of a nation, Hamlyn House, Sydney, 1971, volume 1, page 98.]
