MHS (unaccessioned) Cob Cottage |
Date |
pre 1842 |
Description |
A label inside says: Waterbury clock company, Waterbury, Conn. Eight day and thirty-hour brass clocks, time pieces and regulators. There is a key inside, plus a pendulum wire and a pendulum weight.
A small white label inside the glass door says, "528 cc in 1842". cc means cob cottage. An undated note made by Pam Saunders when she went to Cob Cottage with Ethel Collins (nee Wratt) confirms the clock was brought out by William and Jane Robinson on the ship Thomas Harrison when they arrived in Nelson in 1842. And according to a list of Cob Cottage contents found in an MHS correspondence file between two items for August 1967 & February 1968 (Bay 91/shelf B/Box MHS Corresp.& Balance Files 1967-70/Folder MHS Correspondence Y/E 31/8/1969), this kitchen clock belonged to Mrs. Jane Robinson of Spring Creek. |
