Description 
Copy of a photograph of Charles Bigg Wither, early setler and lawyer from Nelson. Born and educated in England and came to New Zealand 1843 in the ship 'Ursula' . After the Wairau Incident he took up a sheep run in the Wairau and also owned land in Richmond, where he died in 1874. Information from Brayshaw Index cards in the Verticle Files. Label for Pioneer Portraits exhibition 2011: Charles Bigg Wither Charles Bigg-Wither, a gentleman farmer of Richmond, was appointed to the first Board of Governors at Nelson College in 1858, under the Nelson College Act of 1858, and served two terms totalling eight years.
