A scan of this photograph will be used in the Changing European History Gallery 3 display in commemoration of the Marlborough Provincial 150th anniversary on 1 November 2009. ................................................................................................................................................................................ Caption December 2009: A Perano chaser slipping through Cook Strait waters. One vessel was capable of up to 45 knots at speed, and was the fastest motorboat in New Zealand. Chasers nearly always put to sea after the signal had been given from the lookout on the Tory Channel entrance headland. Travelling in pairs was for safety, to make sure of a catch, and made it easier when towing the whale. |
