Collection Marlborough Province - down the decades from early days
Description A black and white photograph showing a small airplane on an unidentified back country property. It is most likely Ross McArthur who stands on the left in shirt and tie and it is possibly Athel Hood in the shorts with his back to the camera.

Written in pencil on the back in an unknown hand, "A.M. Hale Collection. L. Ross Mcarthur? In shorts Athol Hood?" In blue pen is the number "505", but it is not known what this refers to.

A scan of this photograph will be used in the Changing European History Gallery 3 display in commemoration of the Marlborough Provincial 150th anniversary on 1 November 2009.
................................................................................................................................................................................Caption December 2009:
An aircraft having a quick-release load attached under a wing. The subsequent aerial drop in the
back country may have been food supplies for musterers, or materials for hut construction. At far left stands Ross McArthur, a Department of Agriculture officer, and Athol Hood, wearing shorts,
stands nearby.
