Incorrect information: A black and white photograph showing sheep dusting on a property near Molesworth. The name of the apparatus, "...howry-berg sheep dusting unit" , is written on it. There are some very interested onlookers.
On the back is written in an unknown hand, "Rear view ? Jack Broughan". In a different hand, "farm page. Sat[urday?]". In another hand, "A.M. Hale Collection". It has the number 211 in blue ink, but what that refers to is unknown.
A scan of this photograph will be used in the Changing European History Gallery 3 display in commemoration of the Marlborough Provincial 150th anniversary on 1 November 2009. ................................................................................................................................................................................Caption December 2009: Sheep dusting in the 1950s, near Molesworth Station. Dusting stock controlled sheep ticks. This type of stock pest management soon caught on and replaced the once universal plunge dipping. Mr Jack Broughan is the operator in the foreground. Spraying contractors using round tanks soon replaced the dusting method. Molesworth Manager, Bill Chisholm, was quick to employ new technology. |
