The Rangatira at the Waitohi wharf at Picton, the old method of handling cars. Taken in 1962, source unknown. Another photograph taken at the same time is in the same packet (see catalogue record 0000.900.0774). There are two negatives. A scan of this photograph will be used in the Changing European History Gallery 3 display in commemoration of the Marlborough Provincial 150th anniversary on 1 November 2009. ................................................................................................................................................................................Caption December 2009: Car handling before the age of 'roll on - roll off'. The Picton-Wellington ferry Tamahine served for many years. When it was being re-fitted a Wellington-Lyttelton ferry was used. Here we see the Rangatira taking a Wolseley on board. |
