Karrier Gamecock Fire Engine. Bodywork by Carmichael of Dunedin. Registration DY3004
The fire engine was commissioned new for the Marlborough Service in 1962. Most recent owners were Alison Evans and Dain Simpson of the Portage Resort Hotel, Kenepuru Sound. Until recently it was on standby at the resort. In 1962 it was put into the care of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Chief, Geoff Stevens, and it's first driver was Don Corbett. The appliance was state of the art with a 900 litre tank supply, 2 high pressure 3350 kpa hose reels and a Coventry Climax portable pump. It remained with the Blenheim Brigade until the 1980s, when it went to Renwick. Then it went to the Rarangi Fire Force, who sold it to Portage.
The water tank and pump are at the rear. There is a wooden truss ladder. The hose reel is on the left-hand side of the vehicle. There is a siren on the roof. |
