Description Alfred William Hollis of Blenheim, killed in action at the Somme, World War 1. Photograph scanned from contemporary magazine (1914-1918).

Comment: "Alfred William Benjamin Hollis was born 22 June 1885 in Wakefield, Nelson, NZ to Benjamin and Catherine (Kate) Hollis. He was educated at Foxhill School, Nelson. He enlisted for the War effort at Okoramia, Blenheim with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, which left for Egypt on 16 October 1914 from Lyttelton, Christchurch. Private Alfred William Hollis was killed in action, aged 30, on 16 Sep 1916 at Somme and Remembered with Honour at Caterpillar Valley (NZ) Memorial, Somme, France.
