"Wayne Taylor prepares for vibration tests at the Naval Research Laboratory a 6in[ch] aluminium satellite, similar to one scheduled for launching later this year, as part of the test programme before the International Geophysical Year launching of a larger 20in[ch] satellite. The small sphere will contain miniature radio transmitters for tracking. Attached to its surface are six rectangular housings for solar batteries, to be evaluated as a possible power supply for later satellites." |
