Collection EFS (unaccessioned) General
Date 1860s
Description White porcelain lid off a ceramic jar. The lion dog on top was used as a handle. Painted with pink peonies and green leaves with gold detailing. Two outer edges are dark red. Mark on the underside of the rim is possibly the maker's mark (see image 9). Chinese export ware. Made, possibly in the 1860s, in China for the European market.

Found in a wall on the Edwin Fox during restoration. During the ship's lifetime objects had fallen down the walls and got caught in the knees (a bent piece of wood used as a brace).
